The Lazarus hacker group has been attacking various crypto exchanges and stealing large numbers of cryptocurrencies.
North Korea’s notorious hacker group, also known as Lazarus group, has been launching several malicious attacks on crypto exchanges based in Japan, according to the Japanese authorities.
In a recent report, Japan’s National Police Agency confirmed that the cyber group has been launching multiple cyber attacks on most crypto exchange companies within the region since 2019 until now.
The police also informed that the Lazarus group used several trickish methods to launch its attacks, such as sending phishing emails to its crypto exchange employees. The emails reportedly carry malware, which could grant hackers access to steal cryptocurrencies if opened or viewed by the employees.
Aside from sending phishing emails, the hackers targeted crypto employees through different social media platforms using different fake accounts. They would claim to be an executive from the targeted company to lure the employees into downloading malware.
Meanwhile, the Japan Authorities and several other agencies, such as the country’s financial Agency, have alerted crypto exchanges alongside their employees to stay vigilant of the attacks. The authorities also sounded a warning to business organizations to employ adequate security measures to prevent similar attacks.
